Xiangzhou District partnership brings together government, capital, and industry to expand Megarevo's manufacturing footprint beyond inverters into full storage systems

ZHUHAI, China — Megarevo officially signed an agreement on September 9 to build a new energy storage system production base in the Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai, a move the company says will support its shift from being primarily an inverter supplier toward delivering complete, system-level storage solutions to customers around the world.

The signing ceremony was held in Xiangzhou, with local government and company leadership on hand to mark the agreement. Zhang Huiyang, Deputy Secretary of the Xiangzhou District Committee, District Chief, and Director of the Bonded Zone Management Committee, attended alongside Deng Jianhong, Standing Committee Member of the District Committee and Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Nanping Science & Technology Industrial Park Management Committee. Representing Megarevo were Chairman You Yong and General Manager Huang Huijin.

A notable feature of the deal is the parallel introduction of strategic investment from Zhengling Holdings, which joins the project alongside local government support. Bringing government resources, capital and manufacturing expertise together in one agreement is intended to give Megarevo a stronger platform to scale up both its storage inverter business and its broader systems capability, rather than treating the new base as a simple expansion of existing production lines.

From component supplier to systems provider

Founded in 2018, Megarevo has spent the years since building a business centered on energy storage inverters and the broader solutions built around them. The company has been recognized as a national-level "Specialized, Refined, Distinctive and Innovative" (专精特新) "Little Giant" enterprise, a designation China uses to highlight smaller manufacturers with deep technical focus in specific niches — in Megarevo's case, power conversion and energy storage.

Over that period the company has assembled a product and solutions lineup that spans four main use cases: residential storage, commercial and industrial (C&I) storage, microgrids, and power-source-side applications. Underpinning that lineup are two technologies the company points to as core differentiators — grid-forming PCS (power conversion systems) and fully modular PV-storage inverters. Grid-forming capability is increasingly relevant as more renewable generation and storage gets connected to grids that were not originally designed around it, since it allows storage equipment to help stabilize voltage and frequency rather than simply following the grid's lead. Modular inverter design, meanwhile, gives project developers more flexibility to size a system to a site's actual needs and to scale it later without replacing core equipment.

By Megarevo's own account, the company has now delivered more than 200,000 storage inverters globally. Its equipment has gone into a fairly wide range of settings — factories, hospitals, farms, mining sites, oilfields and community microgrids among them — and its strongest markets to date are the Americas, Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. That spread of use cases is worth noting because it suggests the company's growth so far has come less from one dominant application (such as residential rooftop storage alone) and more from serving several different corners of the storage market simultaneously.

Company leadership has been fairly direct in framing this signing as something other than a straightforward capacity increase. The stated logic is that Megarevo's growth to date has largely been built around selling inverters and PCS units as core equipment, while what many of its customers — particularly larger C&I and microgrid projects — increasingly want is a complete system: inverters, batteries, enclosures, controls and integration all delivered and supported as one package. Building a dedicated storage systems production base, rather than simply adding more inverter production lines, is meant to support that shift.

The numbers behind the project give some sense of scale. Total planned investment is set at RMB 300 million (roughly USD 42 million at current exchange rates), with the first phase covering 14,000 square meters of production space. Once the base reaches full production capacity, the company expects it to generate around RMB 400 million in annual output value. Megarevo has said the new facility is intended to strengthen four areas in particular: standardized production of storage systems, system integration work, quality control processes, and the company's ability to deliver at scale across multiple markets and project types at once.

That last point — delivery at scale — is arguably the practical crux of the project. Inverter manufacturing and full energy storage system manufacturing are not the same undertaking. A storage system brings together battery modules, thermal management, fire safety and detection systems, enclosures rated for different climates, and control software that has to coordinate all of it, in addition to the power conversion hardware Megarevo already builds. Standing up dedicated production and integration capacity for that combined product, rather than outsourcing system assembly to partners on a project-by-project basis, is a fairly common step for inverter makers once their storage business reaches a certain size — and it appears to be the step Megarevo is now taking.

Why Zhuhai, and why now

The choice of Xiangzhou District reflects a broader effort by local government to build out a new energy storage industry cluster in the area, and the Megarevo project is being positioned as part of that push. For the district, landing a manufacturer with an existing global customer base and export track record is a meaningful addition to whatever storage and renewables supply chain it is trying to assemble locally. For Megarevo, proximity to Zhuhai's port and manufacturing infrastructure, along with the "full life-cycle service support" the district is offering incoming projects, gives the company a base from which to run both domestic production and continued export to its existing markets in the Americas, Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Company leadership has indicated that next steps will focus on moving quickly from signing to construction and, eventually, production, with continued emphasis on keeping R&D, manufacturing and international market development moving in parallel rather than treating them as sequential phases. Whether that timeline holds will depend on the usual variables — permitting, equipment installation, and how quickly the company can staff and qualify the new lines — but the stated ambition is to get the first phase of the base operational without a long gap between signing and output.

A broader industry backdrop

Megarevo's move comes at a point when the global storage inverter market is getting more crowded, with manufacturers across China, Europe and North America competing on price, technology and — increasingly — on the ability to deliver complete, bankable systems rather than components alone. Utility-scale and C&I storage buyers in particular tend to favor suppliers who can take responsibility for how the inverter, battery and controls perform together as a system, since integration issues between components sourced from different vendors are a common source of project delays and warranty disputes. Building in-house system production capacity is one way suppliers try to reduce that risk for customers, and it is the rationale Megarevo itself has pointed to in describing this project.

For a company that has grown largely on the strength of its inverter and PCS business, adding dedicated storage system manufacturing is also, in a practical sense, a bet on where its own customers are heading — toward asking for a single accountable supplier rather than assembling a system themselves from separate vendors.

Looking ahead

Megarevo has framed the Zhuhai project as the next stage of a longer-term strategy: building outward from its core storage inverter technology toward system-level products and, eventually, more complete solutions for customers across residential, C&I, microgrid and power-source-side markets. The company has said it intends to use the new base to strengthen its overall delivery capability for global customers and, more broadly, to contribute to Xiangzhou's emerging storage industry cluster as one of its manufacturing tenants.

Whether the project meets its RMB 400 million output target on the stated timeline remains to be seen, and the real test will come once construction is complete and the base is running at volume. For now, the signing gives Megarevo a concrete manufacturing commitment to back up its stated ambitions in energy storage systems, and gives Zhuhai's Xiangzhou District another manufacturer anchoring its push into the new energy storage sector.
